The new recruits include 10 men and six women. They took their oaths during a mass enlistment event organized by the U.S. Army Guam Recruiting Company.
“On July 26, the U.S. Embassy Koror’s Office of Defense Cooperation Chief, LCDR Chris Lelah, proudly supported the U.S. Army Guam Recruiting Company in a mass swear-in ceremony,” the embassy said in a social media post. “This event marked the culmination of a year-long recruiting effort, providing enlistment opportunities to the communities of Palau, Yap, and Kosrae.”
The embassy also congratulated the 16 Palauan’s and six recruits from Yap who joined the U.S. military during the event.
Palau has one of the highest rates of military service per capita among U.S. states or territories. Citizens of Palau are eligible to enlist in the U.S. armed forces through the Compact of Free Association.
