Palau Community College student, Ms. Klei N. Andreas, has been selected to participate in the JENESYS Program in Japan from January 28th to February 6th, 2025. The JENESYS Program, funded by the Japanese Government, aims to foster friendship and cultural exchange between Japan and the Asia-Pacific region. During her 9-day visit to Japan, Ms. Andreas will join other participants in learning about their chosen theme. The themes for this year’s program include Peace Building, Disaster Prevention-Environment, Tourism, and Marine Ocean. Ms. Andreas has chosen to be part of the Marine Ocean Group, where she will have the opportunity to learn more about environmental issues, marine life, and sustainability efforts in Japan.
One of the highlights of the JENESYS Program is the homestay experience, where participants live with Japanese sponsor families, allowing them to immerse themselves in the daily life and culture of Japan. Additionally, participants have been asked to prepare a cultural performance to showcase the traditions of their countries, along with bringing cultural attire and small cultural artifacts to share with others.
The Embassy of Japan encourages more Palauan students to take advantage of such programs that provide an opportunity to foster cultural exchange as well as hands-on learning based on specific interests. The short-term invitation programs are also a great opportunity for students to experience Japan and hopefully inspire students to pursue educational opportunities in Japan in the future.
