WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Peace Corps announced Friday it will relaunch its program in the Republic of Palau in 2025, focusing on improving childhood literacy, math and science skills, and English language proficiency.

The announcement follows an invitation from Palauan President Surangel Whipps Jr. and highlights the “enduring friendship” between the United States and Palau, according to Peace Corps Director Carol Spahn.

“This is an exciting time for the Peace Corps,” Spahn said. “This new program in Palau strengthens people-to-people ties and supports shared development priorities, ultimately promoting a more interconnected world in service to peace and world friendship.”

From 1966 to 2018, the Peace Corps operated a single program serving both Palau and the Federated States of Micronesia. During that period, more than 4,400 volunteers worked in the Pacific island nations.

Under the new iteration, volunteers will live and work alongside communities in Palau, focusing specifically on educational needs.
