Three representatives from Palau traveled to the Republic of Marshall Islands for a workshop hosted by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), of which Palau is a member.  The IAEA is an agency that supports member countries’ programs on the use of nuclear technology. Since Palau is a member, three government agencies were invited to attend the workshop in Marshall Islands. The representatives were Dr. Yimnang Golbuu of Palau International Coral Reef Center (PICRC), Roxanne S. Blesam of Palau Environmental Quality Protection Board (EQPB) and Dr. Robert Madisson of the Ministry of Health.

The main goal of the workshop is to build each member states’ capacity to draft technical cooperation country programs. Dr. Golbuu focused on Ocean Acidification program, Ms. Blesam focused on water quality and quantity management and Dr. Madisson focused on the radiology program.

While the three participants from Palau were all there for different programs that Palau can put forward as their priority for technical cooperation program, they gained the same understanding on how the IAEA and the Technical Cooperation programs worked and how to access the program, the Logical Framework Matrix, a requirement for IAEA technical cooperation program.  With all that they had learned from this workshop, the three agencies can now prepare country programs that meet IAEA requirement and help other agencies that are interested but were not able to attend the workshop.
