From August 26 to 30, 2019, Jenna Mersai and Joy Shmull of the Administration Department of Palau International Coral Reef Center (PICRC) had the opportunity to attend the 30th Annual Association of Pacific Island Auditors (APIPA) Conference.
The conference was held in Guam, and a delegation of members from several different government and semi-government entities across Palau, including PICRC, were able to go.
According to APIPA, the conference “serves as the region’s premier professional development event for finance and audit professional from throughout the U.S. affiliated Pacific Islands.”
Attendees learn new skills and technologies, exchange ideas, and network with colleagues from the region. The annual event, which rotates between islands, was held in Palau during the same time last year.
When asked about their experience at the APIPA conference, Ms. Mersai said, “I enjoyed how diverse our meeting was. We got to meet, share experiences, and connect with so many different people from different agencies within the region. I learned a lot of new things and new techniques that can help me improve the way I work to help me succeed in my job.”
Ms. Shmull also added that “The trip to APIPA Conference was a good experience, and everyday sessions were on a different topic, so it was really interesting. I learned more basics of finance accounting, and also other very interesting new things like how to deal with a difficult boss, techniques of presentation, and others.”
One of PICRC’s core values is to maintain a professional and highly competent staff. In alignment with this, PICRC will continue to invest in relevant training for all staff. We thank the public, partner agencies, and training entities for their continued interest and support. (PR)
