PORT MORESBY, 30 JULY 2020 (POST COURIER) — A Papua New Guinea government minister is in isolation at a city hotel after one of his senior political staff was tested positive Wednesday.
The National Control Centre has been tightlipped about this but the Post Courier has confirmed the senior Minister was also tested and is awaiting result his result which is expected today.
The nerve centre was closed down yesterday for fumigation and today the Emergency Medical Team from the World Health Organisation (WHO) is carrying out testing on personnel working out from the Control Centre.
These tests will also extend to their contacts.
Pandemic Controller David Manning meanwhile says the spike in the COVID-19 cases within a short period of time is evident of community transmission and warned city residents in the National Capital District and around the country to seriously observe the control measures and adapt the non-pharmaceutical practices immediately to prevent further spread of COVI-19.
“There is no time for petty politics and mud slinging. We are battling a pandemic crisis on our doorstep and it demands us to be vigilant and united to fight this virus. All efforts are being made to contain the spread.
“At this stage, we cannot say we have hotspots because we have cases coming in from different parts of the city. We are all at risk. We must be mindful that this is spreading. Therefore, the message is for us to be vigilant to protect ourselves against this virus…. PACNEWS
