The Palau Red Cross Society (PRCS) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) will co-host the first Northern Pacific Regional Conference on Voluntary Non-Remunerated Blood Donation (VNRBD) in Palau on March 26th – 28th at The Penthouse conference room.
Representatives from all over the North Pacific will be joining members from Red Cross organizations in the FSM, RMI, Kiribati, the Solomon Islands and Australia to discuss, collaborate and share best practices concerning blood donation and donor retention.
Voluntary Non-Remunerated Blood Donation (VNRBD) is a critical factor in quality blood service delivery.
Blood coming from a voluntary system is, in general, less likely to contain HIV, the hepatitis B virus or other harmful factors. Participants will discuss ways to improve the maintenance and recruiting for voluntary non-remunerated blood donors.
The expected results of this conference include a strong partnership between the Ministry of Health and National Red Cross Societies in terms of safe blood transfusions based on 100% VNRBD in their countries. The Red Cross also intends to involve more youth in a blood related program through a Pledge 25 Club, supporting activities which reinforce healthy lifestyles and safe blood practices for youth.
