KOROR, Palau – President Surangel S. Whipps Jr., expressing gratitude to the people of Palau, has delivered a message of unity and optimism after securing a lead of over 1,000 votes in the 2024 presidential race. The incumbent, poised for a second term, emphasized his commitment to continuing Palau’s progress and addressing key issues facing the nation.

“Ungil sils el mora rechad er Belau el rokui,” Whipps began, thanking God, his family, and the people of Palau. “You chose to move forward for four more years, to continue building on the progress we’ve made together. I am deeply humbled by the trust you have once again placed in me.”

Whipps acknowledged the spirited election season, marked by public debates on national issues and community engagement through town halls and forums. He praised Palau’s democratic process, celebrating the “peaceful election day” as a testament to Palau’s democratic growth over its 30 years of independence. “To every Palauan who took part in this democratic process, whether you voted for me or my opponent, I thank you. We may not always agree, but our shared love for Palau unites us,” he said.

He extended his appreciation to his campaign team and volunteers, who he credited for their dedication and hard work in conveying his vision for Palau’s future. “To those who knocked on doors, made calls, waved, walked, and engaged in conversations with fellow citizens—your efforts made a profound impact,” Whipps said. He also expressed deep gratitude to his family for their unwavering support throughout the campaign.

Reflecting on the nation’s future, Whipps highlighted his administration’s ongoing efforts to preserve Palau’s environment, strengthen the economy, and improve public services, including healthcare and education. “In this second term, we will build on the foundation we’ve laid,” he said, pledging to protect Palau’s natural resources, diversify the economy to create more opportunities for youth, and invest in healthcare and education to secure a better future.

Calling for unity, Whipps urged the nation to work together for Palau’s prosperity: “Let us move forward together, united in our love for Palau and our commitment to its prosperity. The road ahead may be challenging, but I have no doubt that together, we will achieve great things.”

Concluding his message, Whipps expressed his gratitude to Palauans at home and abroad for their support and trust, saying, “Thank you for your trust, your support, and the opportunity to continue serving as your President. May God bless you all, and may God bless the Republic of Palau.”
