The Palau Visitors Authority (PVA) met with key Japanese industry stakeholders on Tuesday, June 19, to discuss about creating Palau-Japan Tourism Council, a loose organization under PVA, and to come up with better ways to promote Palau in Japan.

PVA Chairman of the Board Ngiraibelas Tmetuchl told the media on June 19 that they are taking the effort to reach out to each sector and they are starting with Japan.

“This was suggested to us by our counterparts – that if we can have all the Japanese businesses and stakeholders come together including airlines, start with the locals and then reach out with the Japanese counterparts, we can have a better collaboration in promoting Palau in Japan,” Tmetuchl said.

Tmetuchl said that during the meeting with the Japanese stakeholders, they had discussed about having more familiarization tours to Palau and invite over TV videographers.

It was also suggested during the meeting to hire a PR company that will “specifically target the number of tourists we want and will help us promote in Japan.”

“Our target audience are nature lovers, people who appreciate the pristine environment that we have,” Tmetuchl said. (Rhealyn C. Pojas)
