President Tommy Remengesau, Jr. announced the soft-launching of the non-profit organization dubbed as the Remengesau 2 Foundation during his 63rd birthday celebration at the Sea Passion Hotel on February 28.

President Tommy Remengesau, Jr. launched a foundation focused on environment, cultural preservation, and youth development, among others during the celebration of his 63rd birthday at the Sea Passion Hotel on February 28.

Attended by dignitaries from both Palau and abroad, Remengesau launched the Remengesau 2 Foundation on his birthday celebration and announced that his father, then Acting President Thomas Remengesau Sr., will be the first chairperson of the non-profit organization.

“The Remengesau 2 Foundation is organized exclusively for charitable, educational, and scientific purposes. It will not be a political agenda or any political affiliation,” Remengesau said in his birthday speech.

According to Remengesau, the organization will engage in domestic and international activities aimed at protecting the environment and preservation of Palau’s Indigenous culture.

Remengesau also said that the organization will undertake programs relating to youth development and civic action programs such as trainings, presentations, projects, events, campaigns, that contribute to character building.

The organization will also promote civic engagement, responsibility, and education relating to cultural and environmental conservation including promotion of both scientific and traditional practices.

Remengesau also underscores the need to pass on to the young generation knowledge from the older generation.

“This knowledge must be transferred to the younger generation because really it is the traditional values, the cultural customs and traditions that will help to preserve and protect Palau in [the coming years],” Remengesau said. (Rhealyn C. Pojas)
