On December 6, 2019 – President Tommy E. Remengesau, Jr. presented a certificate of appreciation to former Speaker of the Aimeliik State Legislature, Teruo Rengulbai:
“In appreciation of his invaluable contributions to the people and government of Aimeliik State and the Republic of Palau over thirty-three years of public service in the Aimeliik State Legislature. And in recognition of his leadership over a sixteen-year tenure as Speaker of the Aimeliik State Legislature – the longest tenure of service as Speaker of any State and National Legislature in the history of the Republic of Palau.”
The 80 years old former Speaker Teruo Rengulbai became a member of Aimeliik State Government’s first legislature from 1983 to 1987 and from 1991 to 2019. He has been serving in the State legislature until this December with the outgoing of the 11th Aimeliik State Government. Out of 33 years as a legislator, he had served for 16 years as a speaker, from 2003 to 2019, creating a record of the longest serving legislature speaker in Palau.
Former Speaker Teruo Rengulbai did not run for office this last State general election citing his wife’s ill health as a reason he chose to retire from public service after 36 years. (L.N. Reklai)
