On May 16, 2023, the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) in Palau, in support of Palau Red Cross Society and its Disaster Management services, donated 42,386.83 USD to cover the remaining cost of the pre-construction work of the Palau Red Cross Storage Warehouse and Training Center located in Ngebudel, Airai.
In December 2021, Palau Red Cross Society (PRCS) was awarded Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects, The Project for Constructing the New Emergency Relief Supplies Storage Warehouse and Training Center, for a total amount of 404,828 USD. The Storage Warehouse and Training Center will support the goal of Palau Red Cross Society as a humanitarian organization to build community resilience and local capacity within Palauan communities.
As the initial construction of the project commenced, an extension of the assigned lot area was required to accommodate the building structure. On November 2022, the extension of the lease was granted by the Palau Public Lands Authority. Pre-construction work for an access road, site backfill, concrete pipe culvert, and stone masonry riprap was then required with a total cost of 58,533.48 USD. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC) funded 20,000 USD, leaving the remaining balance of 38,533.48 USD. On January 2023, the newly established Palau Goods and Services Tax (PGST) resulted in an overall balance of 42,386.83 USD.
On behalf of the Republic of Palau and its people, we would like to express our deepest gratitude to the Republic of China (Taiwan) for their generous donation to support the ongoing project of constructing a new emergency relief item storage and training center, and most especially supporting our goal of building community resilience in terms of disaster emergencies in the Republic of Palau.
