All public and private schools will remain close for another week, from January 31st to February 4, 2022.

This, according to a press release issued by the Ministry of Education yesterday saying that the closure is based on medical experts and that it is to help “protect the children”.

The schools have been closed for two weeks but teaching continued using new technology and the internet.

Palau National Communications had provided free data accounts for the kids that had no internet connection or difficulty accessing one.

Minister Dale Jenkins of the Ministry of Education had earlier said that face-to-face learning is the best form of teaching but online learning can be just as effective.

Students in every classroom whether public or private was provided a tablet so that they can do their work online.

One of the concerns posed earlier regarding closing schools has been the fact that the most vulnerable kids will be affected because they will not have breakfasts.  Ministry of Education implemented breakfast in schools a couple of months ago and the response from the children has been overwhelmingly positive.

Continued school closure will protect children’s health but at the same time deprive kids of accessible means each day.
