The Sea Dragon aerial surveillance program by the United States which can cover thousands of kilometers an hour is expected to kick off late this year.
Carlos Ojeda, Maritime Domain Awareness Senior Advisor for the Minister of Justice, Palau told reporters yesterday that the program helps the country monitor illegal activities in Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
The Maritime Domain Awareness uses platforms and is tasked to fly certain areas in Palau and looks for signs of illegals activities,” he said.
A manned aircraft will then capture information which will then go
through the Fisheries Forum Agency (FFA) and the information, cleared and then uploaded in the program called Seavision.
The data is entered into a system that produces digital images of vessels which can be used to prosecute those ships that are violate Palau’s maritime laws.
