Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect. Don’t misunderstand me, I’m not saying be rebellious or defiant. It’s finding your gist – your essence.
Self-reflection is the kind you see when you look inside.
I went to a meeting. We were reviewing a rule book before publishing. I made a suggestion to change one word. One word I believed would promote adherence to the law rather than fear tactic. Fear tactics have failed for years. It was denied. It was the turning point of my journey deeper into self-awareness.
I grew up in an environment where there were too many don’ts. Palau is like that … ngkmal betok a mekull. “Is there anything I am allowed to do without going to hell?” “Why too many don’ts and no do’s?
Self-awareness is your ability to perceive and understand the things that make you who you are as an individual, including your personality, actions, values, beliefs, emotions, and thoughts.
Self-reflection is taking the time to think about, evaluate, and give intentional focus to your behaviours, thoughts, attitudes, motivations, and desires.
It’s the process of diving deeper and determining the great “Why?” behind them.
Unlike a habitual glance in the mirror, self-reflection is a conscious and intentional practice.
Without self-reflection, we simply go through life without awareness.
We unconsciously move from one thing to the next without taking the time to evaluate whether things are actually going well, or even if we like how we’re living our lives each day.
We don’t pause to think. To consider. To determine what is going well and what isn’t working. It’s like we’re stuck in a bubble.
Self-awareness taught me to understand people and refused to take things personally if they disagree with me.
I believe it was Joseph Campbell who said, “If the path before you is clear, you’re probably on someone else’s.”
Thank you LORD GOD for the little things that make me laugh.
