Shin Kong Wu Ho-Su (SKH) Memorial Hospital Chairman Eugene T.C. Wu announced that they have donated a boat to Palau’s Ministry of Health (MOH) to service patients from outlying islands in Palau who do not have easy access to medical service due to distance.
Chairman Wu, during his speech at the sixth joint session of the Palau Congress held at the Senate Chamber on October 10, said that upon learning of the circumstances of the people of Kayangel who would need to cross an 85-kilometer distance just to reach the Palau National Hospital to avail of medical service, he decided to donate a sea vessel meant to cater to this need.
A Yamaha sea vessel with 300 horsepowers that is capable of cutting short to around two and a half hours the travel from the outlying islands to Koror.
The chairman said that the vessel is equipped with a drone that is capable of delivering medicine by air.
A handover ceremony for the boat will be conducted today, October 11, at NECO Yamaha which will be attended by Palau President Tommy Remengesau, Jr.
“Hopefully, Shin Kong’s care for the people of Palau can be further extended,” Chairman Wu said.
