Koror, Palau –Surangel and Sons Company donated $10,000 to Palau Conservation Society (PCS) on Tuesday October 8.

The company’s contribution will support projects like the Ocean Stewards Initiative for Youth, an effort aimed at inspiring Palau’s next generation of biologists, teachers, business owners, and leaders to become future conservation champions of Palau.

Surangel and Sons is one of PCS’ major donors and longtime Corporate Partner for Conservation (CPC).  The family-owned business has contributed to on-the-ground conservation work in Palau for the past 23 years.

The company also incorporates environmental conservation into their own business practices. In particular, the company has implemented a number of efforts to reduce plastic waste. These include providing corn-based grocery bags for customer purchases; these bags take three to six months to biodegrade. Surange l& Sons Co. also provides a $0.10 per bag refund to customers who bring their own shopping bags to transport groceries. Many are familiar with “No Plastic Sunday” at the Supercenter where customers are encouraged to bring their own bags. The Supercenter also has a whole section of environmentally friendly products at affordable prices; these include shopping bags, to-go containers, utensils, and more.
