Koror, Palau — A surprise shakedown at Koror Jail early Thursday morning uncovered a significant cache of contraband, including drugs, weapons, and other prohibited items.

The operation, conducted at 7:30 a.m. on December 26, yielded 12 cellphones, 26 knives, methamphetamine straws, small ziplock bags, glass pipes, marijuana pipes, and various sharp objects. Confiscated drugs included tramadol and other prescription medications issued by the Behavioral Health Division of the Ministry of Health and Human Services.

“The attorney general and myself planned this, and no one knew about it until it happened today,” said Jail Director Curtis Elobt, emphasizing the secrecy of the operation.

According to the Bureau of Public Safety, all drug-related items were handed over to the Narcotics Enforcement Unit for further investigation.

Additional confiscated items included cellphone chargers, scissors, lighters, screwdrivers, and other tools.
