June 27, 2018 – His Excellency Wallace M. G. Chow, Ambassador of Taiwan to Palau presented a check of $250,000 to Executive Director Mr. Nick Ngwal of the Palau National Marine Sanctuary Office (PNMS), as the fourth and final tranche of the $1,000,000 donation towards the PNMS Endowment Fund. The check handover ceremony took place at Taiwan Embassy in Koror.

The Taiwan government was the first contributor to the PNMS Endowment Fund after its inception in October 2015. Taiwan committed to donate $1 million to the trust fund in four (4) installments with $250,000 every 6 months starting December 2016. As pledged, the Taiwan Embassy delivered the fourth tranche this month and the accumulated donation to the Palau National Marine Sanctuary Office has amounted to $1,000,000.00 since December 2016.

“We are delighted and honored to be part of this conservation endeavor.  By working together, we could leave a sustainable environment for our future generations,” said Ambassador Chow.

“President Tommy E. Remengesau, Jr. and I are grateful for our partnership with the Taiwan government and for this generous assistance that has sustained PNMS operations and efforts towards the Republic realizing a full-scale Palau National Marine Sanctuary in 2020. Taiwan’s pledge towards Palau’s conservation efforts is a great example of the kinds of partnerships and opportunities that allow communities to advance conservation programs towards the benefit of generations to come,” said PNMS Executive Director, Nick Ngwal.
