KOROR, Palau — The Taiwan Renewable & Clean Energy team and the Sustainable Tourism team, accompanied by Taiwan’s Ambassador Jessica Lee to Palau, met with President Surangel Whipps Jr. on March 4 to discuss expanding renewable energy initiatives in Palau. The meeting included Minister Ngiraibelas Tmetuchl of the Ministry of Human Resources, Culture, Tourism, and Development (MHRCTD) and representatives from the Palau Visitors Authority (PVA).
Discussions focused on Taiwan’s support for Palau’s renewable energy infrastructure and the nation’s broader goal of increasing clean energy sources. The meeting followed Taiwan’s tourism delegation visit on Feb. 13-14 under the Palau Tourism Promotion Initiative, during which Taiwanese Legislator Wang pledged to advocate for Taiwan’s assistance in Palau’s energy, telecommunications, and healthcare sectors.
Similar renewable energy discussions came a week after Minister Tmetuchl and PVA representatives conducted a site visit on Feb. 27 at the Civic Center parking lot, assessing its feasibility for solar-powered carports and electric vehicle charging stations. This project is being developed in partnership with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and T-PLAN Inc., aimes to introduce renewable energy-powered transportation as part of Palau’s sustainability efforts.
