Your spiritual gifts were not given for your own benefit but for the benefit of others, just as other people were given gifts for your benefit.” – Rick Warren, Author of Purpose Driven Life

When I was in my teens I trained myself not to cry when I’m abandoned or rejected or betrayed.  I became an expert in pushing the pain deep into my unconscious mind.  In denial. The problem is they’re buried alive in my brain and they do get me in trouble.  These painful episodes became like a boil or a toothache that never went away unless I went to a dentist.  The pain lingers, anger was like pressure cooker that could explode at any time.

My father died when I was twelve. I didn’t cry until I was 45 years old. These days I cry easily.  I cry crocodile tears of joy when I see a little child jumping up and down making loud noises because her daddy is home. His truck is coming up the driveway.  So much love and joy in that child welcoming her daddy home. His smile is contagious.  Joy beyond words.

These episodes through the years made me angry. and so sensitive it was hard to be around me.  When I forgave each moment  one at a time, I cried like a baby.  It’s like letting go of my anger opened the floodgates and water flowed, washing everything on the way.  That joy and sorrow is normal.  I’m allowed to laugh and cry.    I’m allowed to be angry or to find  peace in the midst of chaos.  For God causes all things together to make good.  Because He is good.  Even when I considered  myself to be an atheist he was doing something good.  Out of sorrow and pain, anger and guilt, fear and shame God was doing something  good. You find your glory. You develop a  compassionate heart and forgiving spirit.  In all of that, your spirit comes alive with His Holy Spirit moving in with his Gifts. Spiritual Gift is supernaturally designed ability granted to every believer by which the Holy Spirit ministers to the body of Christ.

Again every believer has a gift to edify other believers.

Talents are genetically inherited while Gifts come at second birth.  If you think your gift is teaching you can go study and develop your gift.  For example, cooking and baking are natural talents I inherited from my mother while Hospitality is a spiritual gift from GOD. I found great delight feeding others and let them stay at my house when needed.  I mean God sets up a table for us in the presence of our enemies. When you find yourself struggling too much with spiritual warfare, you need to come go to the table, sit down and feast in his presence.
