Gathering and Fundraising Events
Team Palau the Micronesian Games has finalized the Teams and athletes going to the Games. To date, all the sports will have a Palau team, except for Canoe/Va’a is removed from the Micro Games sports, because only two countries entered.
Palau will participate in Athletics (men and women), Basketball 5×5 Men only and Basketball 3on3 Men Team only, Volleyball and Beach Volleyball men and women teams, Swimming men and women teams, wrestling men and women teams, weightlifting men and women teams, tennis men team only, table tennis men and women team, spearfishing and micro all around (men team only), softball women team only. Unfortunately, the canoe was taken off the games program, due to only two countries registered to participate in the event.
While the Micro Games Team Palau budget is still pending in Congress, the Team is optimistic that the leadership will support the team and bring Palau to the Games in Marshall Islands. So far there is a charter flight on June 12th and return on the 25th of June for Team Palau and reserved seats on the regular flight on the 15h of June and return on the 21st of June.
The Team is ready for the games, and the mandate for the Team at the Micronesian Games is gold medal and top three rank for the Team. The Team Palau is not as big as was expected, as the Canoe team is not going, and other events taking place for young people of Palau to participate as well besides the games. Nonetheless, the Team is now at about 165 pax including athletes, officials, coaches, and team management.
There are 10 countries in the Micronesian Games, including Palau, Guam, CNMI, Chuuk, Pohnpei, Kosrae, Yap, Marshall Islands, Kiribati, and Nauru. Palau is the biggest team at the Games, 2nd to the Marshall Islands. The opening of the Micronesian Games is June 15th and closing ceremony is on June 24th. If any available seats come up for Team Palau, an announcement will be made to the public with all the associated costs as well.
Team Palau to the Micronesian Games, also invites the public and will invite the leadership and sponsors to the Team Palau Gathering before they leave for the games on Tuesday, May 28th at 5pm at the Palau National Gym. Please mark your calendar and join Team Palau at this last Gathering on May 28th. A last fundraising for Team Palau will also take place on May 31st from 10am to 7pm at the front of the Palau National Gym. There will be fun games, food and yard sale, sports carnival, and other Team Palau activities as part of the fundraising event.
