Team Palau to the Olympic Games readies themselves to travel on 19th of July to the Tokyo Olympic Games.
“Vigorous work and diligent travel arrangements are conducted to ensure safety and COVID safe for athletes, coaches and officials at the Olympic games,” stated Secretary General Baklai Temengil
Tokyo is already receiving athletes and teams arriving daily, and some Oceania teams already in Tokyo are at pre training camps. Palau team will depart Palau on Sunday July 19th and return on August 1st.
The Team is comprised of three athletes, Ms. Osisang Chilton and Mr. Shawn Dingilius for the Swimming program and Adrien Ililau for 100m sprint in Athletics.
Mr. Dingilius is now a two time Olympian, who also participated in the Olympic Games in Rio 2016. This will be the first Olympic Games for Osisang Chilton and Adrien Ililau.
The Team with two Athletes Osisang and Adrien with their coaches Coaches Billy Brown and Peoria Koshiba met on July 7th with Chef De Mission Marcy Andrew, the Covid Liaison Officer (CLO) Ms. Stephanie Ngirchoimei, and NOC President Frank Kyota and Sec. General Baklai Temengil to go through all the mandated requirements for travelling to Tokyo and details of activities and schedule of competitions.
Mr. Shawn Dingilius will be arriving Palau on July 11th and will travel with the team on 19th of July to Tokyo. The team uniforms and travelling gears are provided through the Olympic Team Palau sponsorship of Mizuno Japan. The same sponsor had contributed to the Palau Olympic team gears since 2012 London Games.
Additional competition uniforms will be provided through Olympic programs partners as well, and the athletes will receive them in Tokyo. The Olympic team as required by Japan government will be getting PCR tests 96hrs before departure and again 72hrs before departure. With the government support, Ministry of Health has scheduled PCR tests for the team members next week.
At this stage, the team is looking forward to Japan, however, the team management is mindful of all COVID safe requirements to ensure safety of the team between now and their return in August.
