HAGATNA, 12 DECEMEBR 2022 (PACIFIC ISLAND TIMES) — Receiving a fresh mandate after getting reelected in November, Lt. Gov. Joshua Tenorio is interested in running for governor in 2026, according to Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero.
“Tenorio is very interested in running for governor in 2026,” the governor said. “I would like him to, and I think he’ll make a great governor.”
Tenorio is coy about his next political steps, saying, “We have just closed the book on this past election and must focus on our responsibilities first before speculating or initiating a campaign for the future.”
Just the same, Tenorio welcomed the governor’s early endorsement.
“I’m happy and appreciative of the confidence that the governor is placing on my leadership and my future,” he said. “Most lt. governors did not enjoy this kind of trust.”
Leon Guerrero and Tenorio, who lead Guam’s Democratic Party, will hold four more years in office, after defeating former Republican Gov. Felix Camacho and Sen. Tony Ada by a 55-44 vote during the November race.
“For now, I’m focused on working closely with the Governor on advancing Guam’s recovery and ensuring that Guam benefits from the investments being made by the federal government,” Tenorio said.
When her second term ends, Leon Guerrero said she would spend time with her family, including her eight grandchildren and her husband, she said. She does not plan to seek another elected office nor to return to the Bank of Guam, where she had been president and CEO before being elected governor…. PACNEWS
