Koror, Palau – The Office of the Pacific Ocean Commissioner (OPOC) is charting a new course as it transitions its headquarters from Suva, Fiji, to PICRC in Koror and Ngerulmud. Led by Pacific Ocean Commissioner Dr. Filimon Manoni, the team is in Palau this week for a planning retreat ahead of the official office launch.

“We are looking forward to this new OPOC journey and a successful transition from Fiji to Palau,” said Dr. Filimon Manoni.

The team is currently in Palau on a strategic planning retreat preparation for the official office launch later this week. This relocation marks a significant step in the office’s mission to protect and sustainably manage our Oceans in the Pacific.

OPOC Communications Officer Merseseini Marau said, the team is excited, especially those visiting Palau for the first time.

“My colleagues, especially those coming here for the first time, are excited to be here. We are all looking forward to working here,” Marau said.

As OPOC gears up for its new chapter in Palau, the team is confident the transition will enhance their work across the region. The official office launch in Palau will kick of the new phase of promoting and coordinating ocean initiatives in partnerships with Pacific Island nations.
