KOROR, Palau – More than 600 U.S. troops, including soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines, are participating in a large-scale military exercise, Valiant Shield 24, in Palau from June 7 to 18.

Valiant Shield is a biennial, multinational training event designed to enhance joint combat readiness among U.S. forces. The exercise simulates real-world scenarios involving land, sea and air operations.

Palauan President Surangel Whipps expressed support for the exercise, viewing it as critical to maintaining regional security and fulfilling agreements with the United States. He emphasized the importance of communication between nations for peace and economic prosperity.

The U.S. military presence in Palau is led by California’s Combat Logistics Regiment. Participating units include aircraft from both the West Coast and East Coast Marine Corps wings, the Army’s new special task force, Air Force testing and fighter squadrons, and the Navy’s construction regiment.afety is a top priority for Valiant Shield 24. Colonel Matthew Mulvey, the exercise leader, assured the public of close collaboration with local officials and adherence to strict safety protocols.

Residents can expect increased military activity during the exercise, including aircraft and vehicles. There may be aircraft noise, and a live-fire exercise is scheduled for June 16-17. Military officials are taking steps to minimize disruption and ensure the safety of the local community.

Military aircraft and ships will conduct weapons training in the ocean, far east of Palau. Soldiers will also use a special launcher to fire rockets from the ground at targets in the water. These rockets are designed not to explode on impact and will not release harmful materials.

A U.S. government press release stated that American officials are working closely with Palauan government agencies to ensure the exercise is safe and successful.

However, some local officials expressed concerns about communication regarding the exercise. Angaur Governor Steven Salii when asked told Island Times that he was not informed about the event beforehand. He emphasized the importance of following proper protocols to keep the community informed.
