There will be five proposed priority areas for UN support in the Pacific and Fiji from 2018-2022.
The areas will be climate change and disaster resilience, environment sustainability, inclusive development — social and economic inclusion and empowerment, health, education, ICT and governance.
This was revealed by UN resident co-ordinator Osnat Lubrani at the UN Pacific Strategy consultation in Suva last week.
The meeting was part of preparations to roll out the UN Pacific Strategy 2018-2022.
The strategy will dictate UN response to both country level and regional development priorities.
“It responds to what the people and the Government of the country want to do, take into account these countries priorities on one hand and expertise and comparative advantage that different UN agencies can collectively bring,” Lubrani said
She explained Fiji was ahead of some other Pacific countries in terms of development and future assistance to Fiji would involve High Level Policy advice and not as much direct services assistance as in other countries. FIJI TIMES/PACNEWS [/restrict]
