The Visiting United States Army has partnered with the Palau Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) in conducting a four-day veterinarian health outreach program as part of its Pacific Pathways initiatives here.
The US army, which is in Palau for a military exercise, had worked with the PAWS to conduct routine animal care including vaccinations, spays, and neutering.
In a press statement published on the US army website, Capt. Shareen Burton, a veterinarian with the 445th Civil Affairs Battalion, was quoted saying that they the veterinarian will also conduct surgeries on animals that need it and other pets that need treatment.
“Unfortunately, there is no veterinarian on the island, so the need for veterinarian care – whether it is vaccines, or sick pet exams, or surgeries – is very valuable here,” Burton said.
