WASC Accreditation of PHS and four public elementary schools

Koror, Palau—On June 2, 2022, Palau High School was officially notified by the Accrediting Commission for Schools, Western Association of Schools and Colleges (ACS WASC) that its current six years accreditation status is affirmed until it ends on June 30, 2025. This affirmation is a result of the mid-term visit held in April 2022. Palau High School has successfully maintained its WASC accreditation status since 2006.
In July 2022, the Accrediting Commission for Schools, Western Association of Schools and Colleges (ACS WASC) also granted four other public schools, which include Koror, George B. Harris, Meyuns, and Melekeok elementary schools six years accreditation status through June 30, 2028. Having obtained ACS WASC accreditation status after full self-study visits in April 2022, the four public schools are now working in collaboration with school stakeholder groups to implement school-wide action plans.
The Ministry of Education commends school principals, teachers, staff, students, parents, and community members of Palau High School, Koror, George B. Harris, Meyuns, and Melekeok elementary schools for having successfully achieved this important milestone for Palau public education system.
The next group of public elementary schools that will go through full self-study visits to renew initial WASC accreditation status in school year 2022-2023 include Airai, Ngarchelong, Peleliu, Ngeremlengui, Aimeliik, and Ngaraard elementary schools. The remaining four public elementary schools namely, Angaur, Ibobang, Ngardmau, and JFK Kayangel will have their full self-study visits in school year 2023-2024.
The accreditation of Palau public schools is a major initiative of the Ministry of Education for implementing the Education Master Plan 2017-2027 strategic goal to ensure student readiness to enter post-secondary education, training, and the world of work. At present, Palau Community College, Palau High School, 14 public elementary schools, and four private schools have acquired WASC accreditation status.
