Palau President Surangel Whipps Jr. is currently in Taiwan for a week-long state visit, following an invitation from the Taiwanese government.
He is accompanied by a Palauan delegation that includes Minister of State Gustav Aitaro, Minister of Public Infrastructure and Industries Charles Obichang, Minister of Human Resources, Culture, Tourism, and Development Ngiraibelas Tmetuchl, and nine other officials. This marks Whipps’ first state visit to Taiwan since winning his second term in November last year.
Today, the Taiwanese government will honor Whipps with military ceremonies. He will also witness the signing of a technical cooperation agreement and an agreement on training and exchanges for diplomatic personnel with President Lai Ching-te. Additionally, Whipps’ delegation plans to visit various Taiwanese industries to promote bilateral cooperation across different sectors. (By: Bernadette Carreon)
In December, President Lai Ching-te visited Palau, expressing gratitude to Whipps and his country for consistently advocating for Taiwan at various United Nations organizations and for their support, both publicly and privately, in numerous international activities.
