President Surangel Whipps Jr. requested the Olbiil Era Kelulau to quickly approve the appropriation of the $350,000 of the settlement payment for the wrongful death claim of Russel Takisang Iyar Jr. that was authorized under the RPPL No. 11-13 Unified Budget.
The wrongful death settlement claim was agreed to by the Palau government and the parties that sued for the wrongful death of Mr. Russel Takisang Iyar, signed in August of this year and, based on the agreement, must be paid in full within six months.
Mr. Russel Takisang Iyar, a 21-year-old inmate in Koror jail, was stabbed in the neck while in custody by another inmate and died from the wounds inflicted by the attack. The representatives of Iyar and Palau’s attorney general agreed to a settlement agreement of $350,000 to be paid within six months of the execution of the agreement. (By: L.N. Reklai)
