‘Aedes Mosquitos’ is the name of the mosquito that transmits Zika Virus. It was claimed, that same mosquito is also responsible for spreading Dengue, Chikungunya, and yellow fever.

A reported said the sexual transmission is also another way of spreading the virus. In cases where a person travels to a Zika affected area, it is encouraged to abstain from sexual intercourse or utilize condoms correctly and consistently to minimize the risk of transmission.

 

There are several symptoms that indicate the infection. About 1 in 5 infected people infected with Zika will experience symptoms. The illness is usually mild with symptoms lasting from several days to a week.

 

The most common Zika virus disease is fever, rash, conjunctivitis, and joint pain. Other symptoms include muscle pain and headache. People usually do not get sick enough to go to the hospital.

I f you experience this symptom, you are encouraged to seek medical attention.

 

It is advised that preventive measure must be taken.

Mosquitos and their breeding site pose a significant risk for Zika Virus infection. Prevention and control rely on reducing mosquitos through source reduction (removal and modification of breeding sites) in order to reduce contact with mosquitos and people.

 

 

Measures such as using;

 

– Insect repellent,

 

-Wearing clothes (preferably light colored) covering as much of the body as possible.

 

-Using physical barriers a such as screens, closed doors and windows and sleeping under mosquito nets.

 

-containers, drums, flower pots and others that can hold water must all be removed, cleared or covered at all times.

 

The Hospital Authority has urged people who might experience symptoms of the Zika Virus to visit the hospital as soon as possible. [/restrict]
