IBOBANG, NGATPANG — The Belau Modekngei School celebrated its 51st anniversary with a vibrant event held in Ibobang, Ngatpang, on Sunday, January 12. The celebration, which began at 10 a.m. and concluded at 3 p.m., also featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Oremuul Youth Multi-purpose Learning Center.
The event was organized by the Belau Modekngei School and prominently featured the participation of NgaraModekngei, a traditional community group integral to the school’s culture and teachings. Special guests included representatives from OneReef, the organization that fully funded the construction of the new learning center.
According to Principal Nancy, the Oremuul Youth Multi-purpose Learning Center is envisioned as a hub for students and the community to engage in hands-on learning about Palauan culture and customs. “There will be opportunities for youth to collaborate with expert adults on traditional arts and crafts and engage in discussions about our Palauan culture and way of life,” she said.
Principal Nancy expressed her deep gratitude to OneReef for their commitment to preserving Palauan heritage through this project. “I can never thank OneReef enough for taking the initiative to fund the center. Their belief in sustainable Palauan culture and maintaining our way of life is truly commendable,” she said.
