Palau Weightlifting Federation competed in the Guam Weightlifting Championships on Saturday, Feb 25th, 2023, at the Guam Army National Guard Readiness Center in Barrigada, Guam. 9 lifters from Palau along with their coach Ronnie Smith Pedro departed home early on 24th Feb 2023 in time for technical meeting and competition the following day.
With over 45 registered lifters including Palau with 9 lifters and 14 from NMI, Palau managed to bring home 13 medals, The total members of the team were 9 lifters and a coach on a roster, 6 of the nine were female lifters including juniors, youth, and senior athletes representing Palau. With over 45 registered lifters from Guam and NMI, Palau brought 13 medals home. This event is also a pathway for our athletes to also prepare for the upcoming Micronesian Games in RMI this July.
Our womenโs results: Roxanne Mae Canete totaling 115kg, secured the silver medal in the womenโs open category, Jamaira Richard, totaling 115kg won the bronze medal, Kyrah Nestor, the youngest female athlete, 13 years of age totaling 128kg secured the Gold medal in the youth division, and silver medal in the Open division for women, Claire Kintoki with a total of 130kg placing her with bronze. Chloe Patris totaled 115kg, winning 3 medals: Gold in Youth Division, Gold in Junior Division, and Silver in Open Division.
Menโs results: Our youngest male athlete, 17-year-old Blaine Patris totaled 182kg, winning two Gold medals for both Junior and Open divisions, Benedict Kintaro with a total of 250kg won gold in the open menโs division and our own Olympian Stevick Patris totaled 285kg winning Gold and the Sinclair Award.
