Call for Applications

19/10/16- Applications for the 2017 Greg Urwin Awards are now open. The Greg Urwin Awards are a joint initiative of the Australian Government-funded Pacific Leadership Program (PLP) and the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS).  Established in 2008, the Awards honor the memory and legacy of the former Secretary General of PIFS, the late Mr. Greg Urwin.

The 2017 Awards comprise three grants worth up to AUD$25,000 each to be given to outstanding Pacific Island professionals, researchers and emerging leaders to undertake a short (up to 3 months) placement with a regional organization or institution including Australia and New Zealand.

Since its inception, more than 20 awards have been given to individuals from nine countries. The recipients chose placements with organizations that enhanced their knowledge and expertise on thematic areas such as climate change, regional fisheries, bio security, women’s community health service and children’s rights.   At the request of the Urwin family, Awards have also been given to health professionals who work in fields of cancer awareness, treatment and research.
