On September 12, 2022 in a 9/11 Remembrance Commemorating Ceremony at the PCC Cafeteria, Honorable Vice President and Minister of Justice J. Uduch Sengebau Senior opened her speech by way of unity, stating that everyone who were present that night was there in remembrance of that fateful day September 11, 2001.
Madame Vice President stated that although the tragedy of September 11, 2001 took place 21 years ago, it was so impactful that recollection of the intense emotions that day, makes it feel “like it was yesterday”. She requested those present to pause and reflect on the heinous attacks that took place that day, the lives taken that day, and to keep their thoughts with the loved ones left behind as well as the emergency response providers that were greatly affected by the events of 9/11.
Words evoking despair and helplessness as the Vice President describes the tragedies of 9/11 were soon followed and overwhelmed with her strong messages of unity, patriotism, and strength through our robust partnership with our ally, the United States of America.
Madame Vice President conveyed the following words regarding the September 11, 2001 tragedy:
In response, the United States paved the way for future global security by countering terrorism and ensuring the national and regional security of its partner nations such as the Republic of Palau. To say our countries, have a special relationship is simplistic. More accurately, the continued development and success of the Republic of Palau as a free nation is intrinsically tied to the United States’ commitment to freedom and liberty….”
Our Madam Vice President continued to express Palau’s deep appreciation to the United States for its global leadership, partnership, its innumerable and continuous support to ensure our sustained growth, economic stability, and national defense, further declaring that the Republic of Palau “looks forward to realizing a global future of world peace and equality through continuing our special relationship”.
To close her speech, Madam Vice President expressed gratitude to Palau Community College and its President Dr. Patrick Tellei for their continued dedication in hosting 9/11 Remembrance Commemoration Ceremony, those who participated in the 9/11 commemoration, and to the service members who have “stood and fought for justice and liberty across the globe”.
