The Asia Pacific First Ladies Summit 2019 officially opened on December 10th, 2019 at the Ngara-amayong Cultural Center in Koror. The event themed “Addressing the Critical Challenges of our Time: Interdependence, Mutual Prosperity and Universal Values” was attended First Ladies and Former First Ladies from some of the countries in Asia and Pacific.

Among these special guests are Dr. Julia H. Moon President, Women’s Federation for World Peace International and representative of Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon Co-Founder of UPF, Mrs. Merly Christina B. Barlaan President of Womens Federation for World Peace and Ms. Carolyn Handschin, one of the very few from the other side of the world who is the Director, WFWPI-UN Office and International Vice President of the WFWP-Europe.

Many of the women from Asia and the Pacific spoke of fighting for peace and sharing of the universal values. They spoke of issues in their communities, the struggles and the need to voice out.

Ladies were passionate about climate change because their small countries face the effects of it. Many also shared issues they face in their countries because of inequality of women in their communities. Importance of families and community support was stressed.

The women came together to show that women can do just as well as their male counter parts and have their way of working to resolve issues, not to challenge. They came to present accomplishments, show encouragement and spread peace. (Kerdeu Uong)
