KOROR, Palau — The Australian Federal Police (AFP) and the Australian Border Force (ABF) have arrived in Palau to assess the Bureau of Customs and Border Protection’s (BCBP) K9 Facility. Their weeklong visit, made possible with support from the Australian Embassy, aims to evaluate the facility’s training programs, operational procedures, and overall effectiveness in line with international standards.
The assessment will help Palau improve its K9 unit’s capabilities, enhance operational efficiency, and strengthen coordination between local law enforcement agencies. The AFP and ABF team will conduct site visits to key locations, including the Bureau of Public Safety, the Post Office, the airport, the Customs K9 Unit, and the seaport, to observe current practices and offer recommendations.
The AFP’s involvement highlights Australia’s ongoing support for Palau’s law enforcement sector. In addition to the K9 Facility assessment, AFP officers are expected to provide expert guidance on optimizing available resources and strengthening security protocols.
BCBP officials expressed appreciation to the Australian government, ABF, and AFP for their continued collaboration. “This partnership reinforces our commitment to border security and public safety,” the Bureau said in a statement.
The visit underscores the growing cooperation between Palau and Australia in strengthening regional security measures and ensuring more effective border protection.
