The Bureau of Ageing, Disability and Gender and Minister Baklai Temengil-Chilton celebrated Thanksgiving with senior citizens at the Old Age Center on Tuesday November 20, 2018.

Minister Baklai distributed gifts to the elders consisting of a face towel and a reusable water bottle.  This is in support of the Year of Good Health; and to support the “zero plastic waste” initiative by President Remengesau.

In an effort to build stronger relationships in the community, the Ministry acknowledges the support and donations it has received from agencies and private companies.  Recently, Palau Red Cross donated 5 sacks of uncooked taro which they received from Taiwan Technical Farm. Mr. Lim of King’s Palace donated prepared food for the Senior Citizens Thanksgiving Luncheon. Surangel & Son’s has been regularly donating fruits and vegetables especially during month of November.  Class of 1983 particularly, Koror State Government (KSG) Legislator Ann Pedro and other members donated 3 standing fan, hanafuda set, a blanket, and a set of broom and dust pan to the center.

Since this summer (2018), the Bureau has visited and surveyed a number of the homebound elderly in our community.  This outreach program has given the Bureau the opportunity to gain a better understanding of the homebound elderly needs in our community.  The Bureau is helping to meet the needs of our homebound elderly by delivering basic necessities such as mattress, walkers, adult pampers, wipes, hygienic supplies, and non-perishable food items to homebound elders in Koror, all states in Babeldaob, Kayangel, Peleliu, and Angaur.  To date 107 homebound elders have received the items, including food and according to their needs.

The Ministry of Community and Cultural Affairs wishes a very Happy Thanksgiving and Family Day to all senior citizens and our local partners for their continued support in serving our elders in the community. (PR)
