KOROR, Palau — Convicted killer Fang Ye, a Chinese citizen, was extradited to the U.S. Marshals on Friday night by the Palau Bureau of Public Safety. He will be transported to Saipan to face federal and local drug trafficking charges. Fang could face life in prison if convicted.

Presiding Justice Kathleen Salii ordered Fang’s extradition on April 12, 2024, following a hearing to determine if he should be extradited under the extradition treaty between Palau and the United States.

Fang was one of four Chinese nationals convicted of manslaughter in the December 2023 murder of 37-year-old Li Peng, a Chinese citizen. Peng’s burned remains were found in Ewall, an area between Melekeok and Ngchesar. Fang accepted a plea deal, pleading no contest to a reduced charge of manslaughter, resulting in the dismissal of the first-degree murder charges against him. He was serving an 18-month sentence before being deported back to China.
