The Display of Art and Visual Expression (DAVE) Art Show, a locally organized and curated art exhibition, was a vibrant addition to Palau’s 30th Independence Day and Olechotel Belau Fair on October 1st. Situated at the main entrance (OEK Rotunda), visitors were immediately greeted by a stunning showcase of works from 27 talented Palauan contemporary artists.

Teaming up with the Ministry of Human Resources, Culture, Tourism, and Development, and supported by OneReef Micronesia, the show’s theme was “Connecting Culture and Nature through Art.” This event, organized by Create Belau, a group of art enthusiasts comprising Elsei Tellei, Chloe Ysikl Yano, Ivory Vogt, Imade Tellei, Janine Tewid, and Dillon Meriang, aimed to elevate the local art scene and foster a thriving creative community.

The abbreviated name ‘DAVE’ honors the memory of the renowned Palauan artist, Dave Ngirailemesang. A prolific artist with a Master’s degree in Fine Arts, Dave taught as an associate professor at Stephen F. Austin State University before returning to his homeland to continue teaching art at local high schools and Palau Community College to share his passion for art. Given his significant influence on the art community, it was a fitting tribute to dedicate the exhibition to his memory.

During this year’s DAVE Art Show, both seasoned and emerging artists had the opportunity to display their work and sell their art and merchandise to attendees. This proved to be a resounding success, with the artists collectively earning approximately $8,000 – a remarkable tenfold increase compared to the inaugural DAVE event held in 2020.

The exhibition showcased the work of these talented Palauan artists: Dave Ngirailemesang, Sam Adelbai, Renged Akiwo, Dee-Raya Antonio, Chance Douglas, Jomil Garcia, Singe Hideos, Maecey Jenkins, Sachi Jones, Cobi Jones, Kiruu “Keekz” Kanai, Sequoia Tangerine Kimmel, Meang Ngiraingas, Madison Ngirmidol, Holly Nolan, Miel Sequeira-Holm, Quinlan Sikt Yaoch, Elilai Sugiyama, Briana Takada, Janine Tewid, Elsei Tellei, Harrison Umang, Olu Williams, Dirruchei Wong, Telbakes Yano, Nobu Yano, and Chloe Ysikl Yano.

Create Belau is eager to continue organizing events, connect and feature more of Palau’s creatives, and highlight the incredible artistic abilities of our Palauan community.
