(Koror, Palau) Tourism arrival statistics for the month of March shows no change in the downward trend of tourist arrivals to Palau.

March showed a decline of 27% over the same month last year.  February saw 29% drop compared to also February of 2016 and January showed decline of 17% over same time last year.

The downward trend has been happening for the entire 2016 which resulted in overall drop of 21% in 2016 compared to previous year.

The downward trend is attributed to policy to cut down charter flights, strong dollar against source market currencies and geopolitical unease around region.

President Remengesau in his report stated that despite the drop in number of visitor arrivals, spending per visitor has risen, resulting in high revenue collection in the last quarter. [/restrict]
