KOROR, Palau — Egan Tewid was officially sworn in Thursday as Chief of Immigration for the Republic of Palau, marking a new chapter in the nation’s border and immigration leadership.

The ceremony, held on April 17, was administered by Curtis Elobt, director of the Bureau of Public Safety, and witnessed by Bureau of Customs and Border Protection Director John Tarkong Jr., Chief of Corporate Services Robert Tarkong, and Tewid’s family members.

Tewid holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the University of Guam and previously worked with the Bureau of Budget and Planning, gaining experience in public sector operations and policy planning. His academic background and public service experience position him to take on the responsibilities of the role with competence and purpose.

As Chief of Immigration, Tewid will oversee the enforcement of Palau’s immigration laws, manage daily immigration operations, and coordinate with other government agencies to improve border security. He is also expected to lead efforts to modernize immigration services, enhance operational efficiency, and uphold institutional integrity.

The Bureau of Customs and Border Protection welcomed Tewid to his new post, expressing confidence in his leadership to further the division’s mission and improve service to both citizens and international travelers. (PR)
