KOROR, Palau — A 69-year-old man was found dead early Wednesday morning outside his home in the Idid hamlet of Koror in what authorities believe to be a case of self-harm.
Police identified the deceased as Roman Itelmong, a retired employee of the national public works. He was discovered by his brother around 6 a.m., according to a report from local authorities.
Itelmong was found sitting on the ground in a semi-leaned position with a fishing line around his neck that was tied to a tree, police said.
Emergency responders transported him to the hospital. While authorities believe the death was self-inflicted, the final cause of death is pending confirmation from medical professionals to rule out other possibilities.
The case has been referred to the Criminal Investigation Division for further review.
