High obesity rate in Palau could result in more colon cancers
(Koror, Palau) “Obesity is one of the known risk factors besides smoking for colon cancer,” stated Dr. Alex Chu, a gastroenterologist from Shin Kong Hospital in Taiwan. “And the good news is that colon cancer is one of the few cancers that can be treated if diagnosed early,” added Dr. Chu.

The new endoscopy unit donated to Belau National Hospital is expected to provide such tool for early detection.
Training of doctors and nurses in Palau on the use and maintenance of the equipment is currently underway. Another gastroenterologist is expected to arrive after Dr. Chu leaves in a week to continue the training.
