May 25, 2017 (Koror, Palau) Former Minister of Community & Cultural Affairs Mrs. Faustina Rehuher-Marugg was appointed yesterday by President Tommy E. Remengesau to be the new Minister of State, replacing Minister Billy Kuartei.

In his letter of appointment to Senate President Hokkons Baules, Remengesau relates some of Mrs. Marugg’s accomplishments, notably her role in getting the Rock Islands Southern Lagoon incorporated as UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2012 when she served as Minister of Community & Cultural Affairs.

“The focus of our international relations must be on peace, freedom and stability in our region. Through our efforts to construct partnerships built on cooperation and collaboration, we will find success in our efforts to promote political, economic and social development. In this work, we must not lose sight of our goal – a culturally strong Palau with sustainable future,” stated Remengesau in his endorsement of Rehucher-Marugg to the Ministry of State.

In his letter to Minister Billy Kuartei, Remengesau referred to their previous discussions regarding Minister Kuartei’s commitments as well as his recent surgery.

Minister Billy Kuartei served as Remengesau’s Chief of Staff during his first two terms in office and during the third term, he served as Minister of State until the beginning of this fourth term.

President Remengesau expressed his deep respect for Kuartei’s “tremendous work” and relayed to him the “appreciation of a grateful nation” for his contribution as a Minister of State.
