A leader of The Filipino Community in Palau (TFCP)died after a car he was riding along with four individuals went off road and crashed along Melekeok road at around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, October 26.
TFCP Vice President Domingo Bergonio, 60, was a known name in the Filipino Community in Palau as he had worked here for several years and had also served as an officer for the organization after he was elected for the position during the February 25 election this year.
In an interview with Island Times yesterday, Public Safety Director Aloysius Alonz said that Bergonio was riding with four other individuals composed of Filipinos, a Palauan, and a Bangladeshi when the incident happened. The car they were riding came from a job site in Melekeok and was heading to Koror when it went off road and crashed. The deceased was seated on the front passenger seat.
It was the Melekeok Police Substation officers that first responded to scene.
According to Alonz, Bergonio was still breathing and was complaining of chest pain when he was brought by the responders to the Belau National Hospital where he was later declared dead after attempts to revive him.
The driver, who was also a Filipino, and the other passengers all sustained injuries from the accident.
Police are still conducting further investigation on the case. (Rhealyn C. Pojas)
