25 January 2023– Consultants from the Pacific Community (SPC), Pacific Women Lead Enabling Services (PWLES), and the Australian Infrastructure Financing Facility for the Pacific (AIFFP) were in Palau last week conducting consultations with the Government of Palau, development partners, private sector, and non-government organisations. The consultations will inform a new Gender Country Plan (Plan), which will detail the Australian Government’s funding for agreed gender activities from 2023 to 2026.

The week of consultations concluded on Friday with approximately 30 individuals from government, community organisations, and development partners attending a 2-hour workshop to hear the outcomes and prioritise areas of support under the new Plan. Priorities raised by stakeholders include support to implement the Family Protection Act and the Gender Mainstreaming Policy as well as focussing on women’s leadership, economic empowerment and digital resilience. The Australian Embassy looks forward to working with the Government of Palau and community stakeholders to finalise the Plan and support efforts to ensure Palauan women and girls, in all their diversity, are safe and in a fair and equitable manner share in resources, opportunities and decision-making, with men and boys.
