(Koror, Palau) The Office of the Attorney General has been filing more drunk driving cases lately, showing government’s push to reduce incidents of motor vehicle accidents caused by drunk driving or driving under the influence of drugs.

In two recent cases filed, AG filed 3 counts against Leeroy Gerwin who fell asleep at the wheel of his vehicle and crashed against the railings and into one of the posts of the Japan-Palau Friendship Bridge or KB Bridge.

Mr. Gerwin, according to the police report was highly intoxicated and failed the field sobriety test.  The 3 counts against him include driving under the influence, reckless driving and criminal damage to property in the third degree.

Another case for drunk driving was also filed against Danny Yangrepliy.  According to police report, Mr. Yangrepliy was driving from Topside to Madalii with his car headlights off and when stopped by the police was found also highly intoxicated.

Car accident due to drunk driving is still the leading cause of serious injuries and deaths to young people in Palau. [/restrict]
