KOROR, Palau — Guam captured the bronze medal in women’s beach volleyball with a commanding 2-0 victory over Wallis and Futuna on Wednesday, showcasing strong serving and court awareness throughout the match.
In the opening set, Guam’s Austia Mendiola and Kristen Serrano surged to an early double-digit lead, fueled by a string of service aces and efficient net play. Wallis and Futuna rallied late with back-to-back aces and timely blocks but fell short as Guam closed the set 21-14 with a well-placed bump and a decisive kill.
The second set began more competitively, with both teams exchanging blocks and sideouts. Guam regained control with aggressive serving and effective court coverage, taking a 13-8 lead into the technical timeout. Wallis and Futuna narrowed the gap to 19-16, led by the serving of Tekela Fiafialoto and a key kill from Gladys Pressense, but Guam responded with a critical sideout and sealed the set 21-16.
With the straight-set win, Guam secured the bronze medal, capping off their tournament run with a poised and dominant performance.
